Since 2021, I’ve been working with MAGENTA – a consulting firm focused on social and behavioural change – on a number of design & communication projects for their clients. Over the years, I’ve creatively directed, designed and structured reports for them, with the aim of clarifying messaging through copy & design. A few of my favourites are showcased below:
Client: UNICEF Iraq
Brief Overview: MAGENTA approached me to transform a text-heavy report into a visually compelling and easy-to-understand design. The directions were clear: "every page should be "very designed up" and "a lot less text, a lot more visuals". I love taking dense information and finding ways to present them visually, so I truly enjoyed working on this project!
Before we got started, I provided Magenta and UNICEF with a detailed ‘look and feel’ document that presented options for typography, color schemes, and illustrations. Once we agreed on the overall visual direction, I redesigned the content, turning text-heavy sections into engaging illustrations and infographics that were digestable and easy-to-comprehend. The Behavioural Insights Guide was developed in both Arabic and English, ensuring consistency in visual elements.
Client: UNFPA Iraq
Brief Overview: MAGENTA approached me to design a key messages document for the National Birth Spacing & Family Planning Programme, implemented by UNFPA in Iraq. The intention was to distribute the booklet across all relevant government institutions. The goal was to create a book that was visual, straight-to-the-point, and focused on delivering key messages in bite-sized information. I took full ownership of the design process, developing the guide in both Arabic and Kurdish.
I provided the client with a detailed ‘look and feel’ document, offering options for typography, color schemes, and overall aesthetic to ensure the design aligned with the guide’s purpose and cultural context. I designed 50 original illustrations that thoughtfully reflected Iraq's diverse culture and communities, making the content more relevant for its intended audience. The final result was a 100-page illustrated key messages document, designed to be accessible to readers of all ages and backgrounds.
Client: UNICEF Iraq
Brief Overview: I fully designed a bilingual Community Discussion Guide in Arabic and English, carefully incorporating visual elements that reflected Iraq’s diverse cultures, as requested by the client. To achieve this, I conducted research into the patterns and colours traditionally used in both Iraq and the Kurdish region, and settled on a cohesive design that combined elements from both cultures. Additionally, I developed templates for Training Tools, ensuring they aligned with the guide’s aesthetic and purpose. The result was a culturally resonant and visually engaging guide, tailored to the unique needs of the project.
